Has it really been that long?

Sorry for the delays.  I could make excuses, but my students took them all!

Grade Eight French are all finishing up their unit on Consommaction.  I will be scheduling taping times Monday of next week.  Be sure to have all of your props with you when coming in to tape.

We will be in class working on Grammar and gearing up for French week and with it our Acadien(ne)s theme.

In grade seven English, we have a spelling test this Wednesday on our compound word list.  We are working on grammar problem issues such as run-on sentences and sentence fragments. 

We have also started a new novel.  You should be reading, predicting and filling in your charachter profiles as you read.

Grade Nine English:

Spelling we are to be tested on lesson 14.

You should by Monday be finished reading chapter six in Homecoming and be ready for a class discussion on these chapters.  Be sure to bring your novels to class on Monday.

Middle of January already?

Grade seven English:

We are working on our letter writing project right now.  The rough copy should be finished and have been peer edited.  Final copies are due on Wednesday.

Grade Eight French:

Our new theme has been started.  Consommaction involves discussion on what we buy, why we buy what we buy and where we buy.  It involes our thoughts on how we spend our money and what we look for in different items.

Homework for this week is to find three labels from our three categories:  Les produits personnels, les produits de loisirs et les produits alimentaires.

Grade Nine English:  Your writing project is due this week.

Exam review has been started this morning.  Be sure to review your notes on grammar and your novels. 

Exam is on Friday, January 26 at nine am.

Hmmm….  Where to start?

Grade eights are presenting their restaurant on Wednesday and Friday this week.

Next week will be review, testing and practising French Christmas Vocab.

Grade sevens have started their new unit “Working Together”.  This week we are discussing how well we work together, the benefits as well as the draw backs.  We are reading in our magazines and working in small groups to prepare (and eventually perform) a small skit on working together (But, of Course!)

They have their next spelling test this Thursday.

Grade Nines are working on their novel.  They should be reading and working on their story mapping.  They are to be adding information as they are reading.

We are also working in our magazines (Relating – our new theme) and talking about ways to relate, what it means to relate and ways to get out a message that are non-verbal.

Grade Sevens:

We are starting a new theme this week.  It is called Working together and will be our theme for the next three months.  Your novel projects are now overdue.  Spelling test on Wednesday.

7A:  We are going to the library on Wednesday to exchange books.

Grade Nine:  We are starting a new theme as well.  We will be starting with a novel TBA.

Grade eight french:  Continuing group work.  Taste testing is to be ready for Thursday, December 7th.

Mid-Week Work

Grade sevens!

Your novel project is due on Friday.  Make sure to read all the instructions.  You don’t want to lose marks, and I won’t accept “I didn’t understand this section.”  You have had plenty of time during English class for clarification!!!

Canspell should be on your minds.  I have the spelling guides.  If you are seroius, please obtain a copy from me!!!

Grade nines-

By Friday, we will be finished our learning stations in the library.  We wil have one “clean-up” day next week.  Anything that cannot be finished during that time will be completed at lunch or after school in the library.

Spelling day is this Friday.

Please see my side board to verify that you have your books handed in.

Grade Eight francais

We are going to be working in groups this week and next, working on our projet final:  Nos restaurants, nos recettes secretes, nos promotions, nos decors etc.

do not forget you have un test de francais demain (that’s tomorrow!!!)

Grade eight French

Need to get their permission forms in.  Sampling will take place soon, but only to those who have permission.

We have completed page 29 in our livrets.

Grade nine English

We are working on learning stations in the library.  On day four in the morning, we will be in the classroom as the grade nine immunizations are beinge held in the library.

On Day five (Thursday) it is the regular spelling day.

All novels should be passed back in to Mrs. Duffy.

Grade seven novel project

Here is our grade seven novel project:

Section I:  Choose one of the two.

1.  Create a new book jacket for your novel.  Remember, a book jacket has a front, back and spine.  On the front, you need an appropriate picture, the title, the author.  On the back, you need a brief, original, paragraph or two designed to entice the would-be reader to read the novel. 

2.  Draw or design a scene you feel is very important to the plot of the story.  Include a short paragraph telling where it is found in the book (pages) and why you think it is important to the story.  You may choose to draw, paint or create a diorama.

Section II:  Choose one of the two.

3.  Write six journal entries from the main character’s point of view.  These journal entries should take place at different moments during the novel ans should pertain to important events.  Each entry should be two to three paragraphs minimum.  They should be in chronological order.

4.  Write a letter from the main character to a friend who has never heard the story explaining what has happened to you.  Please include ALL important details from the story and tell the story in chronological order.

Section III

5.  Did you enjoy the novel.  Explain.

6.  What is the message this story gives you?

7.  Did the ending surprise you?  Explain why it did or did not.  What were some clues given.

8.  What is one thing you would change about the novel?

Homeroom stuff:

A newsletter went home today. 

Yearbooks are on sale this week.  Deposit of $12 or pay in full $24 to reserve a copy.

Healthy snacks are available on Wednesday.  Students are to bring in a loonie on Tuesday each week.

Dance is Wednesday from 7-9:15.  Students pay $3.50 at the door and bring in one can item.  Student fees must be paid.

Now, onto work!

Grade sevens are currently working on their second novel.  They should be reading this at home.  They have been given a project sheet, with marking grid on back that shows them what to work on and what is expected of them.  It is due on Friday, December 2, 2006.

Next spelling test is early next week!

Grade nines are finishing their novel Forbidden City on Wednesday.  They are to turn in all questions and novels by Thursday.

Spelling test on lesson 7/3 is on Wednesday of next week.

Grade eights are finished up to page 17 in their livret.  They have a permission form to be signed and returned.

Happy hallowe’en!

Grade eights have now started their new theme called Entrepreneurs en Herbe.  8A will have finished pages 2&3 and 8B has also finished p4.  We will be viewing our websites and voting for the best in class this week!

7’s have a spelling test on Tuesday.  Any writing projects that have not been handed in on Thursday are due!

7A students whose parents did NOT attend parent-teacher interviews are to return their progress reports to me!

All pictures are to be paid for or returned ASAP.

Reminder of the upcoming dance next Thursday.  Student fees must be paid in order to attend.  Seven’s must exit the dance at 9:15pm.

Grade nines- Writing project is now due!  Late marks taken off for any paper not handed in on Monday.

Novel questions will be completed on Thursday, Nov. 2.

Grade nine and both grade seven classes are to have their rough copies of their writing project finished and in class tomorrow.

The grade nines chose between a comparison, a descriptive essay or a short story.

the grade sevens choice was between a movie or a book review.

 

In grade eight French, all students are to have passed in their livrets.  We will be working on grammar all this week.
